Vintage Carolina Kicked off Community Foundation's 25th Anniversary:

Hendersonville, N.C., April 8, 2008: The Community Foundation of Henderson County, along with its sponsors, hosted Vintage Carolina - High Spirits & Fine Food on April 7, 2008 at the Hendersonville Country Club. The evening came together in an extraordinary way, kicking off the Community Foundation's 25th Anniversary celebration. The evening raised over $40,000 to support the mission of the Community Foundation to help people who care make lasting contributions to causes that matter.

Community Foundation Deadline Approaches for Scholarship Applications:

Hendersonville, N.C., February 20, 2008: The Community Foundation of Henderson County announces over $79,000 available in scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year. Students may review scholarship descriptions and pick up a scholarship application in the guidance office of their school, or at the Community Foundation office, located at 401 N. Main Street, 3rd Floor, Hendersonville. The deadline for scholarship applications is March 3, 2008 by 5 p.m.

Community Foundation Awards over $43,000 in Grants:

Hendersonville, N.C., February 18, 2008: A safe and secure place for women involved in domestic violence situations was the focus of a recent grant from The Community Foundation of Henderson County. For many people leaving a violent home, Mainstay, our communities domestic violence agency, is their only option for safety.

Community Foundation Awards Grants to Benefit Henderson County:

Hendersonville, N.C., November 21, 2007: The Community Foundation of Henderson County awarded a $5,000 grant from unrestricted funds to the Mills River United Methodist Church (MRUMC) to support the Mills River Life Enhancement Center, a program for senior citizens of the entire Mills River community that will provide services such as nutritious meals, health screenings and information, and recreational and service acitvities.

Community Foundation Week Celebrates Giving in Henderson County

Hendersonville, N.C., November 14, 2007: Community Foundation of Henderson County will join more than 770 community foundations across the United States in celebrating charitable giving during Community Foundation Week, November 12-18. Community foundations gave approximately $3.6 billion last year to fund programs impacting health care, the arts, the environment, education, disaster relief and a host of other issues.

Hendersonville, N.C., October 4, 2007: The Community Foundation of Henderson County is announcing a call for grant proposals for the Fletcher Community Fund, one of the Foundation's oldest funds. Established in 1990, the fund provides cultural, educational, historic and civic enrichment for the community of Fletcher, N.C.

Hendersonville, N.C., August 22, 2007: More than 220 friends of the Community Foundation of Henderson County gathered on August 22, 2007 for its Annual Luncheon at Kenmure Country Club. Guests heard about the accomplishments during the 2006-2007 fiscal year, honored this year's Richard C. and Vina L. Sauer Award winner and heard from featured speaker, Julie Salamon, author of "Rambam's Ladder: A Meditation on the Generosity and Why it is Necessary to Give."

Hendersonville, N.C., July 11, 2007: The Community Foundation of Henderson County will host its Annual Luncheon on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, noon, Kenmure Country Club. Community Foundation's Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund awards $177,000 to benefit the Western North Carolina region

Hendersonville, N.C., June 21, 2007: For over a hundred years, Presbyterian Home for Children of Black Mountain (PHFC) has been caring for abused, neglected and abandoned children in Western North Carolina. The goal of Presbyterian Home is to prepare youth for transition to a permanent home -- whether with a foster family or adoptive family or a home of their own once they have become independent.

Community Foundation Awards $20,400 to Benefit Henderson County

Hendersonville, N.C., May 30, 2007: The Community Foundation of Henderson County is parterning with the Etowah Lions Club to make improvements to the Etowah Recreation Park, the focal point of public athletic and outdoor activities in western Henderson County. The Etowah Lions Club originally purchased and began development of the Park in 1995.

Rudnick fund awards $161, 450 to benefit the Western North Carolina region

Hendersonville, N.C., December 27, 2006:  Perry Rudnick’s legacy has benefited many areas of community life in Western North Carolina.  Since 2002, this benefit has totaled over $1.1 million in grants awarded.  In 2004, the Perry N. Rudnick Foundation, a private foundation founded by the late Perry Rudnick, joined the Community Foundation of Henderson County by creating an advised fund to make a positive difference in many lives through charities.

New Pension Law Also Provides for Charity

August 17, 2006 – Since 1974, millions of Americans have saved billions of pre-tax dollars in Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). Thanks to continued savings and investment returns, an estimated $3.6 trillion is currently invested in IRAs, and the total continues to grow. Today, a federal law was enacted allowing IRA owners to share the wealth of their retirement savings by giving directly to charity—without first counting it as income and paying income tax.

CFHC Awards over $267,000 in Scholarships

The Community Foundation of Henderson County awarded $267,000 in scholarship assistance to 147 local high school graduates for the 2006-2007 school year. The Foundation awarded 70 new scholarships totaling $115,500 and renewed 77 scholarships totaling $151,667.

CFHC Awards $237,008 in Grants to Benefit Community & Surrounding Areas

Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to strengthen Latino communities, launched the Funder’s Collaborative for Strong Latino Communities to build stronger partnerships between organized philanthropy and Latino communities and increase the capacity of Latino-led nonprofits. The Community Foundation of Henderson County awarded $25,000 to support the Collaborative. The Community Foundation recently awarded the following grants.
