CFHC's Community Initiatives

Community Foundation of Henderson County is in touch with and keeps abreast of the needs of our community and surrounding areas. Periodically, the CFHC board of directors provides direction for special initiatives.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Due to the downturn in the economy from 2008 to 2011, many Henderson County residents experienced financial difficulties, some for the first time. The Neighbors Helping Neighbors initiative was formed to address growing needs within the community for shelter, utilities, food, health care and mental health assistance.

Providing this assistance required a community-wide team effort. The Neighbors Helping Neighbors initiative required the participation of many groups and individuals. Henderson County had more than 40 nonprofit agencies working to assist clients in crisis. An interagency review team met monthly to review requests for assistance, and discuss pressing community issues. Approximately $125,000 in additional dollars was provided to meet the needs of the Henderson County area.

Disaster Relief Initiatives

Community Foundation of Henderson County's disaster relief initiatives provide temporary financial resources to expand the capacity of Henderson County nonprofit organizations to meet increased demands for service in the aftermath of disasters. Examples of the Community Foundation's disaster relief initiatives include:

  • September 11 Fund
  • Hurricane Katrina/Sandy Relief
  • Gulf Coast Region Oil Spill Assistance to Victims of Flooding and Tornadoes in the South
