Making a Difference in Our Community

Through donors' generosity, Community Foundation of Henderson County builds the capacity of the region's nonprofit sector by awarding grants that improve organizational effectiveness and provide general operating support across many fields of interest.

Since its establishment in 1982, the Community Foundation has partnered with thousands of philanthropic donors and distributed tens of millions of dollars to hundreds of nonprofit organizations, resulting in far-reaching, life-changing impact in our community for countless individuals.

How One Donor Gives Back

Years ago, Lorina Culpepper decided to help the community by establishing a donor advised fund at the Community Foundation. As she learned more about the Community Foundation, she realized the importance of building an endowment, a permanent fund that keeps growing long past a donor's lifetime and continues to generate income to provide support to a donor's favorite causes. Lorina established an endowment to help advance nursing careers. One-time gifts make an impact, but endowment funds like Lorina’s benefit causes for decades to come.

How One Grant Recipient Does Good

Blue Ridge Literacy Council, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing adults in Henderson County with English communication and literacy skills, has received numerous grants through the years from donor funds as well as the Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund, a component fund of the Community Foundation. Support flowing from Community Foundation funds helps Blue Ridge Literacy Council provide free literacy instruction to hundreds of adults each year, improving their clients' lives and thus enriching our community.
